It is sometimes necessary to test medium voltage cables, connectors and or electrical equipment after installation or for fault location - this can be carried out with the cables connected or disconnected, either "dead" or "live".

Nexans Test Rods can be used to detect medium voltage cable fault location, cable testing and phasing checks.

Nexans Power Accessories (UK) Ltd have launched a Test Rod Kit to compliment their range of cable accessories (cable joints, cable terminations, screened separable connectors) for MV applications, 11kV-33kV.

Nexans Test Rods and accessories are supplied within a hard wearing, foam cut carry case which ensures, if properly used, that the contents will be protected from damage.

Nexans Test Rods - MV Design

• 1. Insulating shroud
• 2. Threaded rod for test connection
• 3. Two nuts M12
• 4. Insulation
• 5. Copper test rod stem

An insulating shroud is provided to allow the application of test voltages when medium voltage bushings are closely spaced.

Nexans 400TR test rod can be used with Nexans Euromold 400TE, Nexans Euromold 430TB, Nexans Euromold 400TB and Nexans Euromold 440TB connectors.

The Nexans 400TR-LB is for use with the 400LB connector.

Nexans Test Rods - MV Installation 

The Nexans medium voltage test rod is mounted on to the clamping screw in the type C interface tee and coupling connectors.

The test cable is connected to the threaded stem and the insulating shroud moved to its final position over the end of the test rod.
