CATU Electrical Safety Equipment
Cable Spike Equipment - CATU MP-213 Cable Spiking Tools
CATU high quality, durable cable spiking tools are for use on electrical power cables, both low voltage and high voltage. The CATU cable spiker can accomodate cables up to 150mm.
The Catu range of cable spikers are the safest tools for assured cable de-energisation. Typical applications include spiking low voltage and high voltage (11kV-33kV) power cables prior to cable jointing, cable terminating or cable repair.

Safety Note
As part of safe system of work on a known LV-HV cable, cable spiking provides physical proof that a cable is dead at the point of work. Typically a tone generator is applied to the cable under a test document, the tone is obtained at the point to be spiked and the cable spiked with the tone on (the tone should be lost past the point of spiking as the chisel blade of the spiker acts as a short if successful). Typically the tone generator is then removed, earths reapplied and the test document cancelled. A work document can then be issued and the cable cut adjacent to the spiker prior to its removal and the commencement of work proper.
Cable Spiking 11kV Polymeric Cables
Conventional cable spiker guns will spike 3 core polymeric cables, although a jacking attachment is required to facilitate the removal of the spike from the high voltage (HV) cable. Spiking guns will not satisfactorily spike three single core cables simultaneously. A special insert is required for spiking guns to accommodate three single cores plus a packer. High voltage single core power cables should be spiked individually.
