The Ellis Patents ranges of Stainless Steel Cable Cleats provide effective and reliable cable restraint and support to low and high voltage power cables in hazardous area Zones 1 and Zones 2.

Cable cleats suitable for hazardous areas are made from 316 grade stainless steel with excellent resistance to corrosion from agressive chemicals, oil, gases and hydrocarbons.

The Ellis Patents range of Atlas, Emperor, Vulcan and Varicleat stainless steel cable cleats suit single, trefoil and bundled cable cleating applications.

Vital Short Circuit Protection in Hazardous Areas with Ellis Cable Cleats

Ellis Patents are a leading voice in the campaign to have cable cleats reclassified as short-circuit protection devices.

A move that would mean cable cleats would be placed on a parallel with fuses and circuit breakers.

"This reclassification makes absolute sense. In the event of a cable fault, the forces between cables reach their peak in the first quarter cycle, which is the point that cable cleats earn their crust. In contrast, circuit breakers typically interrupt the fault after 3 or even 5 cycles by which time, if the cable cleats are underspecified, the cables will no longer be secure, but will be putting vital electrical installations and lives at unnecessary risk," says Paul Nolan UK Sales Manager, EP.

Hazardous Area Zones Classification

Zone 1

Where flammable atmosphere is likely to occur during normal operation

Zone 2

Where flammable atmosphere is not likely to occur during normal operation and if it does will only exist for short period of time, typically less than 10 hours per year

Zone 21

A place in which an explosive atmosphere, in the form of a cloud of combustible dust in air, is likely to occur occasionally in normal operation

Zone 22

A place in which an explosive atmosphere, in the form of a cloud of combustible dust in air, is likely to occur in normal operation but, if it does occur, will persist only for a short period
