400kV Cable Installation & Cable Jointing.

This nkt Video covers key project aspects including cable transportation of 1150m 400kV cable drums by cable drum trailer and the mechanised cable pulling down into the tunnel onto cable support brackets.

Learn how the bespoke cable drum trailer eliminated the need for 54 crane lifts.

See how nkt 400kV EHV cable jointers overcome the challenges of jointing cables in confined spaces by deploying optimised cable jointing processes - the jointing works included 24 400kV straight joints plus 3 outdoor cable terminations and 3 transfomer terminations.

400kV nkt cable was installed featuring their unique thin black cable sheath coating which when nicked or damaged during the cable pull reveals a red cable insulation beneath to enable jointers to effect an on site cable repair.

Finally, nkt developed a monitoring system for oil pressure and partial discharge.

nkt produced all cables and joints in their Cologne factory and executed a total turnkey package :

• Supply of 400kV straight joints and dry cable terminations
• Installation of the cables by nkt cables fitters and cable jointers
• Tests on site using nkt cables test trailers
• Installation of a monitoring system
