3M resin cable joint shells can have implications for low voltage cable jointing applications.

3M cable joint kit shells feature a closure cap to prevent any pollution into or from the resin cable joint.

3M cable joint shells encapsulate the 3M Scotchcast resin providng excellent electrical insulation and mechanical protection for low voltage cable joints.

3M Coldshrink Cable End JointsThe dimension of the cable joint shell can be a critical criteria when selecting low voltage resin cable joints - consideration should be given to the space and weight displacement of the cable joint shell if the jointed cables are to be contained on cable tray or ladder, often confined or close quarter cable jointing can make resin cable jointing difficult due to the bulk of the joint shell.

Where space is limited and cable jointing workspace confined, a Cold Shrink Cable Joint with smooth profile which provides small additional increment to the actual cable diameters to be jointed could be a engineering preference.

Where cables need to be jointed and the cable then needs to be pulled into underground cable ducting, contractors should ensure the actual choice of cable joint can actually be accomodated within the ID of the duct - for instance, cable joints with mechanical connectors often have oversized shells which are much larger than "Torpedo" type resin cable joints or smooth profile heat shrink cable joints.

Just because the cable joint shell will accomodate the cable needing jointed does not mean that the selection is satisfactory - thought should be given to the environment the cable joint is to be exposed to, for instance hydro-carbon resistant cable joints should be specified for jointing cables in oil and gas environments.

Also, the length and width of the cable joint shell determines the cable jointing bay size and level of excavation works required to access an underground buried cable which has faulted and needs jointing.
