Thorne & Derrick have confirmed several Cable Duct Sealing solutions to contractors bidding for the Hameldon Hill wind farm extension. RWE npower renewables is delighted to be increasing its renewable energy output in Lancashire after plans to extend Hameldon Hill Wind Farm were given the green light. The application was approved by Burnley Borough Council in December 2010 for an additional three turbines to its existing wind farm, south west of Burnley.
Steve Milburn, Development Manager for RWE npower renewables, said: “We are very pleased with this decision. Hameldon Hill Wind Farm has been operational since 2007 and we are looking forward to increasing the clean electricity produced there with this extension.” The three new turbines will have an installed capacity of between 6-7.5 megawatts (MW), bringing the combined output to a maximum of 12MW. When fully operational with the existing scheme it could supply the average annual domestic electricity needs of around 6,800 homes.1 Construction is due to start 2012 and the extension is expected to begin operation in 2013.
T&D distribute duct seals, cable and pipe transit systems to protect against water ingress and gas escape through cable duct and service entries into substation basements, cable vaults, switchrooms and access man-holes.
Duct sealing systems include CSD Rise Duct Seals and Denso Mastic Duct Seals.

CSD RISE duct seal system is a multi-cable and pipe transit sealing system. CSD RISE provides an effective and simple solution to all fire, gas and watertight duct sealing requirements. The duct seal system will provide a certified pressure rating of up to 2.5 bar and can be made fire tight by using fire resistant RISE duct sleeves.
The CSD Rise duct seals are in service throughout the water (Scottish Water, Welsh Water, Wessex Water, Thames Water, Southern Water, Severn Trent), electricity (EDF, NEDL, ENW, UK Power Networks, YEDL, SSE, Scottish Power) and telecom industries (BT Openreach).

Densoseal 16A is a self-supporting non-setting mastic which has been developed for sealing cable ducts and conduits against gas or water penetration. Densoseal 16A is packed into the ends of the duct by hand and moulded firmly around cables and against the duct to ensure there are no gaps or fissures. The Densoseal mastic 16A should be packed to a depth of at least equal to the diameter of the duct. Surfaces should be free from loose rust, scale, dirt or previous sealants.
