Subsea Cable Joints.
.......the Indian Ocean seabed to be precise. A seabed environment places obvious and intense electrical and mechanical design considerations on cable joints used to connect high voltage power cables.
After 15 months of design and specification work T&D have completed the supply of 6off sub-sea 24kV marine cable joints for the Mumbai Island Interconnection project. Working with a global subsea cable installation contractor, T&D designed and supplied the heat shrink cable joints for use on 3 core 24kV subsea cables buried underwater at a depth of 25m.
SPS, with their vast experience of standard and customised heatshrink joints, splices and terminations at 11kV, 24kV and 33kV, engineered a bespoke 24kV XLPE heatshrink cable joint with T&D adding Pfisterer Sicon mechanical connectors rated up to 72kV. The bespoke 316 stainless steel IP68 enclosure manufactured by Fisher & Co provided additional protection for the 24kV subsea cable joints which were filled with Prysmian JEM200P resin to prevent implosion by the huge pressure generated at 25m. T&D are now in negotiation to supply additional 24kV subsea splice joints and cabling for further phases of the project.
