3M QS1000 cable joints are a single-piece Cold Shrink joint body made by 3M from a specially formulated silicone material.
3M Cold Shrink provides flexibility, easy installation at low temperatures and superior electrical performance over a wide range of operating temperatures.
Recently T&D have supplied 3M QS1000 cable joints to connect 11kV power cables located on offshore oil platforms in the North Sea, in extreme low temperatures of Kazakhstan gas plants and the arid high temperature conditions of Saudi Arabian oilfields. 3M Cold Shrink, utilising QS1000 cable joint bodies, are adopted by global power utilities as the preferred HV cable joint. QS1000 Cold Shrink is quicker, safer and easier to install.
What Is QS1000 ?
3M QS1000 is injection moulded and consists of 3 layers.
When & Where Can QS1000 Be Used ?
QS1000 can be used for cable jointing polymeric (XLPE & EPR) and paper cables up to and incuding 15kV - QS1000 is central to 3M's range of Cold Shrink joints covering polymeric and paper in line (straight) joints and transition joints where it is necessary to connect polymeric directly to paper insulated cables. QS1000 is a key component to both single and 3 core Cold Shrink cable joints.

How Does QS1000 Work ?
Once QS1000 are installed, the 3M cold shrink tubes create a dynamic, compressive environmental seal and electrical interface without sealants and adhesives. 3M QS1000 Cold Shrink tubings and cable joint bodies are always "attempting" to return to original size (smaller than the high voltage cable conductor it is on). The constant inward pressure means the cable can be flexed and the seal will not be broken.
