Who Are EA Technology?
EA Technology originated in 1966 as a research and development company serving the electricity industry.
Today, EA Technology is a power engineering consultantcy specialising in asset management and solutions for owners of electrical assets.
New Partial Discharge Forum For Electrical Engineers
EA Technology have developed their open Partial Discharge Forum to be hosted at their UK headquarters on the 26th March 2015.
This event came about as a number of EA Technology clients ask for expertise in monitoring their High Voltage (HV) assets for Partial Discharge (PD). The knowledge that EA Technology possess around PD has been developed through their vast experiences from PD surveys and via the Partial Discharge User Group (PDUG), a panel of experts from each of the UK Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) who meet quarterly at EA Technology to discuss PD problems, detection methods and future instrumentation designs / requirements. The PDUG is exclusive to the UK DNO's.
The scope of the PDUG is to provide a forum to discuss partial discharge issues relating to medium and high voltage switchgear and other substation plant and equipment. Other activity includes development of a PD Database, testing for other PD phenomena and long term testing of cable terminations.
Private Network Owners,Operators and Electrical Engineers now have the opportunity to join a similar event, the new Partial Discharge Forum.

Who Should Attend The Partial Discharge Forum And Why?
The Partial Discharge Forum will be of interest to : Lead Electrical Engineers, Electrical Project Engineers, Principal Electrical Engineers, Plant Engineers, LV HV EHV Cable Contractors, Substation Commissioning Managers, LV HV EHV Project Managers and SAP's.
The main purpose of the forum is to allow clients to share their own experiences, by presenting them as case studies open for discussion, and enable them to develop the same understanding that DNOs have obtained from the Partial Discharge User Group (PDUG).
The forum consists of 2 events per year. The main forum and a social event the night before for networking and making contacts.
Benefits Of Membership & Cost
The cost to attend the forum is as follows :
£650 for first delegate, £350 per additional delegates from the same company, however any delegates that have a case study they can present that is appropriate, can attend free of charge !
There are a plethora of benefits of membership including :

What Is Partial Discharge ?
Partial discharge is a small discharge or electrical spark that bridges a small portion of the insulation between two conducting electrodes, often referred to as PD activity. PD activity can occur at any point during the insulation system. When the electrical field strength exceeds the breakdown strength of that portion of the insulating material.
It can occur in voids within solid insulation, across the surface of insulating material, within gas bubbles in liquid insulation and around an electrode in gas in the form of corona. Partial discharge activity is the most reliable indicator that assets are deteriorating.
