In addition to the classic protection tests, commissioning engineers have to verify correct operation of all status and interlocking elements in a substation. Typical other tasks that have to be performed are checking SCADA annunciations, burden measurement, CT/VT polarity checking, wiring checking, testing logic schemes, for example with event recording, plausibility check for CT/VT with primary injection.

OMICRON & PD

A partial discharge, or PD, is a localized dielectric breakdown of a small portion of the electrical insulation. PD can be initiated by voids, cracks, or inclusions within a solid dielectric, at interfaces within solid or liquid dielectrics, in bubbles within liquid dielectrics, or along the boundary between different insulation materials.
