SPS High Voltage Joints - Enhanced Watertight Cable Sealing Using Heat Shrink

Heat Shrink Cable Joints, Cable Terminations & Jointing 6.6kV 11kV 33kV

High Voltage Heat Shrink

SPS heat shrink cable joints and cable terminations are Tested to International Standards outlined in Cenelec HD 628 S1 and 629.1 S2 : 2006 - encompassing VDE 0278 and IEC 60502. Peace of mind performance.

Shrink Polymer Systems High Voltage Heat Shrink Cable Joints & Terminations

SPS high voltage cable joint design incorporates a number of internal and external sealing steps to prevent the ingress of moisture into the cable joint :

a) Yellow melt tape over high voltage screen ends and connector, preventing moisture travelling to the connector area

b) Adhesive lined outer heat shrink tube to prevent moisture entering the cable joint in the first place

c) High voltage joints include mechanical connector supplied by German company Pfisterer - this is a blocked and coated connector with tapered ends

SPS Universal Heat Shrink cable Joints

SPS universal heat shrink cable joints suit 3 Core XLPE / PILC / PICAS cables or transition complete with tapered range taking mechanical connectors. Based on the uniset heatshrink / resin combination joint, heat shrink outer tubes are used instead of outer shell and resin. The joints are therefore lower in cost, quicker to install and can be installed on uneven planes including vertical installations.

Current Cenelec / IEC / VDE or BS standards dictate that Standard Heatshrink Joints are tested submerged in water to a depth of 1 metre and load cycled for a period of 63 cycles and then tested once more. SPS cable joints, manufactured from heat shrink, have passed this test. In fact, SPS heat shrink joints have even been tested to 10 metres to comply with a test conducted at Kema in Holland for a special application cable joint.

If your end client is still concerned about water ingress into the heat shrink cable joints due to the nature of the installation, SPS can modify the standard cable joint to incorporate additional heat shrink internal sealing or offer the cable joint as a heatshrink/resin combination joint.
