Thorne & Derrick continue to support the renewable energy sector by supplying LV-HV cable contractors and training centres with high voltage cable stripping, preparation and jointing tools. Narec (National Renewable Energy Centre) contractors made an order for Boddingtons Electrical cable jointers tools.

Narec has invested over £150 million to create UK’s national translational research centre for accelerating the deployment of offshore renewable energy technologies. The multi-disciplinary team of scientists and engineers operate some of Europe’s largest translational research, development and testing facilities for offshore wind, wave, tidal and electrical network technologies.

Clients and collaborators include: project developers, utilities, major manufacturers, universities, research organisations and supply chain companies. 

Boddington Electrical 244400 tool is for the stripping of peelable ("easy-strip") semi-conductive screens from 33kV single core XLPE power cables. The 244410 stripping tool has a maximum rotating diameter of 130mm and the incision depth can be adjusted from 0 to 0.9mm with 0.1mm trips each by turning the corresponding knob.

• To strip the non-vulcanized semiconductive layer of MV cables
• Longitudinal, helical and circular cuts
• Positioned on the cable like a vice
• Stop clamp to limit the stripping length
• The positioning of the stripper and holding of stop-clamp is assured by the pressure of the stripping
• The longitudinal and circumferential incision can be performed in one action
• Application range: 16 - 41mm
• Insulation thickness: 0 - 2mm

Boddingtons Electrical 244700 shaving tool is designed to remove the vulcanised semi conductive layer from cross-wired polyethylene (XLPE) MV cables with diameters from 10 to 52mm. The 244700 tool has been designed for easy usage. To begin shaving just position the tool at the point where you want to start, adjust the depth of cut and then move the tool around the cable using the handle.
