Peppers ATEX Certified Cable Glands for Hazardous Areas

Hazardous Area Electrical Equipment

ATEX Certified Cable Glands. Hazardous Area Cable Glands.

Peppers Cable Glands are cable accessories that are designed to permit the entry and termination of a cable into electrical equipment and which provide sealing and retention. Peppers have a range of cost effective barrier glands in Europe, for use in hazardous areas and potentially explosive atmospheres, where certification to the ATEX directive is obligatory.

Peppers’ Barrier Glands have unique features that reduce installation times by using the Peppers T-1000 compound, enabling the conductors to be terminated within the equipment after one hour. The compound chamber may be inspected after four hours and the equipment can be energized. Our innovative barrier chamber provides a cable acceptance that is on average 17% larger than other barrier gland designs which allow the use of smaller glands resulting in a significantly reduced cost.

Peppers Cable Glands engaged Sira's Safety Compliance team to bring the range of hazardous area cable glands to market and ATEX certification was achieved in record time for the cable glands. Tush Thakore, Commercial Director at Peppers Cable Glands explained: "Sira was the only certification body to guarantee completion of the ATEX certification project within preset timelines and at a reasonable cost.

"In addition, Sira is known for using a sensible commercial approach, so that cable gland certification processes are not needlessly repeated, enabling us to pass on the cost and time benefits to our customers."

The ATEX directive has been adopted by the European Union (EU) to facilitate free trade in the EU by aligning the technical and legal requirements in the member states for products – such as electrical and mechanical equipment and protective systems – intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres and hazardous areas.

Any product that falls within the scope of the ATEX directive and is to be sold or serviced within the EU, must comply with the Essential Health and Safety Requirements (EHSR's) specified in the directive. Any delay in bringing new product to market, for instance by a protracted certification process, would lose sales for the manufacturer.
