What is WAPP?

The West African Power Pool (WAPP) was created by Decision A/DEC.5/12/99 during the 22nd Summit of the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government in order to address the issue of power supply deficiency within West Africa. It covers 14 of the 15 countries of the regional economic community (Benin, Côte d'Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo).

Who are WAPP?

Member Utilities include Sonabel Burkina Faso, LEC Liberia Electricity Corporation, Senelec Senegal, PHCN Power Holding Company of Nigeria, Gridco Ghana, NAWEC National Water & Electricity Company of Gambia, CEET Togo, VRA Volta River Authority Ghana and EAGB Guinea Bissau.
