An increasing incidence of flash-overs and outages experienced by Petroleum Development Oman, the sultanate's largest producer of oil and gas was traced to porcelain insulators that could not withstand the harsh desert conditions. To overcome the challenges, they installed ABB's high voltage switchgear with composite, silicone rubber insulation to improve the reliability of power supply.
