Pfisterer Sicon Shearbolt Cable Lugs & Connectors – Plastic Cap Use Clarification

Pfisterer provides plastic caps with Sicon bolted cable lugs and connectors, however, these are not intended for use in all applications as per the instructions supplied with the product.

For medium voltage heat shrink cable jointing applications the caps should not be used.

This is due to risk of the caps losing their shape, resulting from thermal misshaping. Due to this risk Pfisterer recommend the use of the supplied mastic (included in the cable termination or cable joint being used) to fill the remaining hole in the Sicon body following shearing of the screws, to give the lug or connector body a circular shape.

If the caps are subject to thermal misshaping, in the worst case this could lead to splitting of the tube whilst being shrunk down or even discharges within the medium voltage cable joint.

The correct use of Pfisterer Sicon Shearbolt Cable Lugs products can be found in the attached instructions which must be adhered to validate any waranties.
