Earthing & Lightning Protection - An Absolute Necessity

Are your earthing systems up to the job?

How can you safeguard your assets in the safest and most cost effective way?

T&D are the largest UK stockist of AN Wallis Earthing and Lightning Protection equipment including copper earth tapes, earth bars, earth rods, earth plates and a complete range of couplers, driving studs and bosses.

T&D UK distribute an extensive range of earthing tape and conductors including bare copper tape, PVC insulated copper and aluminium earth tape, LSF insulated copper earth tape, lead covered copper earth tapes and hard drawn copper bar.

Copper LME Base Rate: Copper is a commodity traded on the London Metal Exchange (LME) daily, therefore the price of copper based earthing and lightning protection products fluctuates in line with the LME. To keep these variations minimised, copper items are sold in price bands relating to the LME base rate - contact T&D UK for todays rate.

Earthing and Lightning protection are an absolute necessity for buildings. T&D Earthing and Lightning technical information sets out what this proetction is and the dangers faced if this issue is not paid attention to.

What is a Lightning Protection System?

In Layman's terms, a lightning protection system is a series of conductors installed with the sole responsbility of conducting electrical energy down to the ground that would otherwise pass through a building if it were to be struck by lightning.

Lighting Protection System

A Lightning Protection System is made up of 4 key components:

  1. Air Termination - Vertical Air terminals positioned on the roof and edge of the building where a strike is most likely to occur
  2. Down Conductors - The down conductors the low impedance path from the air termination system to the earth system
  3. Earth Termination - Each down conductor must have its own earth electrode termination and the resistance to earth of the whole system must not be greater than 10 Ohms. The most common of these are rods driven into the ground
  4. Bonding - The bonding of exposed metalwork is a key consdiferation for lightning protection systems. Bonding ensures that side flashing does not occur

T&D service industrial electrical contractors, building services engineers, HV substation installers, earthing and lightning protection contractors.
