Low Voltage Cable Jointing
Cable Abandonment Kits - Cable abandonment kits are used when cable is left underground but it is not intended to be left live. If by mistake it has power connected to it, the cable abandonment kit is designed to create a short circuit to earth so that it will trip out, thus it will render the circuit dead to enable the engineer or cable jointer to realise power was switched to it by mistake. In this design, there are no provisions for stress control systems and screening because it is just not meant to be left live.
3M Cold Shrink Cable Abandonment Kits (CSCAK) are suitable for XLPE (SWA steel wire armoured) and EPR (GSWB galvanised steel wire braided) insulated cables, including single and multicore cables with lead sheath, 600/1000v and 3.3kV. The 3M abandonment kits are also suitable for Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous area electrical installations without need for heat shrink "hot-working" and naked flames in potentially explosive environments - CSCAK abandonment kits suit EEMUA 133 XLPE lead sheathed power cables (600/1000v and 3.3kV) for use in the oil, gas and petrochemical industry.
The 3M Cold Shrink Cable Abandonment Kit CSCAK4 are used to temporarily or permanently seal power, control and instrumentation cables - especially the abandonment of redundant or decommissioned low voltage offshore and shipwiring cables. The CSAK4 can be also used to seal or pot end live cable ends - each cable core is separately sealed using a small cold shrink end cap and a screen bandage applied to reinstate earth fault protection. Finally an outer cold shrink cable cap is installed to abandon and seal the cable end.
T&D UK can provide both cable abandonment and cable end cap seals for fibre optic cables.
