Bushing Boots For High Voltage Cable Connections

Bushing Boots - High Voltage

High voltage switchgear and transformer bushings differ in size and length depending on the manufacturer. The HV cable installer or cable jointer should determine whether the bushing boots proposed are suitable for the specific high voltage installation. Bushing boots do not provide touch protection. HV installers must ensure there are no sharp points on the terminal lug that may nick or damage the bushing boots during installation. Use the silicone grease supplied and smear over the finished high voltage cable core before sliding the boot over onto the bushing.

HV installations must observe the minimum air clearance for cable terminations in cable boxes according to IEC 60071-1 to 71-3 with bushing boots fitted. Check HV cable boxes for minimum clearances.

Minimum Air Clearances For Terminations In Cable Boxes In Accordance With IEC 60071-1 To 71-3 With Bushing Boots Fitted

Maximum System Voltage, Phase to Phase (kV) 7.2    12 17.5
Minimum Air Clearance Between Live Metal 'A' (mm) 100 100 100

Minimum Air Clearance Between Live Metal and Earth'B'(mm)
