Hazardous Area Enclosures
ATEX Enclosures For Hazardous Area Zones 1 & 2
Hoffman ZONEX ATEX IECEx Certified Enclosures, Type 4x
Hoffman offers a range of ATEX certified enclosures, designed for use in potentially hazardous area locations. Zonex Enclosures are suitable for use in Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous areas, EExe and increased safety applications. Hoffman Zonex electrical enclosures also provide the installed components with IP66/NEMA 4X environmental protection.
Increased safety deals with limiting the arc or spark of components installed so as to eliminate the possibility of igniting a gas or dust in the environment, as well as controlling the surface temperature of the electrical enclosure.
By limiting the number of terminal blocks installed, the amount of heat generated by the wire and installed components is controlled. Controlling the temperature rise maintains the electrical enclosure surface temperature below defined limits, which eliminates spontaneous combustion due to the known flash points of certain gases and dusts.
Zonex Enclosures are fabricated from 316 stainless steel, which provides good corrosion resistance in most environments. A silicone gasket offers sealing and temperature performance.
Side mounted slotted mounting brackets allow easy one-person mounting and installation. Standard electrical enclosures with either one or three cable gland plates allow for easy modification and wiring, and a lift-off door allows full access to components inside.

ATEX Certified Electrical Equipment for Hazardous Areas
ATEX is the name given to a set of European Directives relating to Hazardous Area Electrical Equipment Installations (Flammable Atmospheres) to avoid industrial accident or incident. ATEX Directive 94/9/EC (ATEX 95), is a directive adopted by the EU under the “New Approach” strategy.
The “New Approach” ATEX directive supersedes the “Old Approach” ATEX Directive, the Potentially Explosive Atmospheres Directive, 76/117/EEC – ATEX 94/9/EC (ATEX 95) facilitates free trade in the EC for hazardous area electrical equipment intended to be used in potentially explosive atmospheres. ATEX Directive 94/9/EC (ATEX 95) covers “Electrical Equipment” used in hazardous areas with potentially explosive atmospheres created by presence of gases, vapours, mists or dusts.
T&D UK stock and distribute an extensive range of ATEX Certified Electrical Equipment for Hazardous Areas including cable glands, electrical enclosures, junction boxes, plugs and sockets, cable joints, control stations, isolators, cable transits, cable cleats, mobile phones, laptops, digital cameras, conduit systems, portable lighting (torches, handlamps, headlamps).
