Sumburgh Airport - Much Needed Runway Repairs
In January 2012, a judge ruled in favour of Shetland Islands Council (SIC) against paying for the cost of repairs to the defective runway extension at Sumburgh Airport. The need for repairs comes after the runway has been battered by south-easterly gales and storms.
Battered by waves, displaced rocks and sucking infill from below the tarmac into the sea, the whole runway extension was in dire need of repair. Not just the tarmac but also the runway lighting and adjoining cables need repairing.

The runway at Sumburgh airport, in need of repair to its lighting system, has been supplied with 350 3M 92-NBA1 premium un-armoured cablejoints from T&D.
These joints are designed specifically for the installation of single core screened airfield lighting cables rated up to 5kV, and Multi Core Unarmoured cables rated up to 1.1kV.
