T&D have supplied BP Exploration (Caspian Sea) Ltd with 3M Cold Shrink Joints 11kV via their UK preferred Electrical Bulk Equipment Supplier.

Working with BP Principal Electrical Engineer, Thorne & Derrick specified 3M 11kV Cold Shrink Cable Joint Kits 92-AV620-3 encapsulated with hydro-carbon resistant 1402FR Scotchcast resin for the HV cable jointing of 11kV 3 core 185sqmm XLPE cables.

3M Cold Shrink cable joints were accepted as they require no "hot-working" for installation in hazardous areas and potentially explosive atmospheres. The cable joints were installed in cable trenches (directly buried) in highly contaminated soils.

3M Scotchcast 1402FR hazard area resins is a halogen free, flame retardant resin which provides long term resistance against most hydrocarbons and are suitable for areas where there is a danger of gas, oil, sewage or chemical spillage including Zones 1 & Zones 2 hazardous areas.

3M 1402FR resin is suitable for electrical insulation and mechanical protection of low and medium voltage electrical joints installed for indoor and outdoor, underground and submerged applications.
