Access Chambers

Manholes and their covers installed in Europe should meet the requirements for the European Standard EN124. This applies to all situations, road and off-road and all materials.

Products designed to EN124 are grouped and classified depending on their installation:

Group 1 (A15)  - Areas which can only be accessed by pedestrians and pedal cylists.

Group 2
(B125) - Footways, pedestrian areas and comparable areas, car parks and car parking decks for slow moving wheel loads including HGVs.

Group 3
(C250) - For gully tops installed in the area of kerbside channels of roads which when measured from the kerb edge, extend a maximum of 0.5m into the carriageway and a maximum of 0.2m into the footway.

Group 4
(D400) - Carriageways of roads (including pedestrians streets), hard shoulders and parking areas for all types of fast moving road vehicles.

Group 5
(E600) - Areas imposing high wheel loads, e.g. docks, aircraft pavements.

Group 6
(F900) - Areas imposing particularly high wheel loads e.g. aircraft pavements.
