Earthing Systems

Kingsmill earthing systems from T&D provide high strength and reliable earthing - this includes copper earth tape, copper earth bars, copper earth plates and copper earth rods. 

Kingsmill copper earthing is manufactured in accordance with national standards BS EN50164 and BS7430.

Earth Tapes & Conductors - Copper Earth Braids & Cable

Copper earth tapes, earth braids, earth cables and conductors with optional PVC covering are available in an extensive range of conductor sizes - aluminium earth tapes available.

Earth Mats

Copper earth mats (solid and lattice type) provide reliable earthing in high fault current and step potential avoidance applications, such as substations and switchrooms.

Earth Bars

Copper earth bars can be supplied with single or twin disconnection links, 6 way to 30 way - customised earth bars can be produced to client specification.

Earthing Technical Background

The various standards for earthing provide design limits to be met and together with codes of practice explain how the earthing system can be designed to meet these.

There are differences in the design limits applying to consumer installations and to electricity supply installations and reference should be made to the correct standard to check the limits which apply to each earthing application.

The earthing system conductor is designed to ensure that potentials in its vicinity are below appropriate limits:

1. Step Potential - the potential difference between two points on the surface of the soil which are 1m apart.
2. Touch Potential - the potential difference during fault conditions between exposed metalwork and a point on the soil surface.
3. Transfer Potential - the potential difference between an insulated cable connected to a remote earth reference and the earth rod.
