Hot Pour Compounds
Hot Pour Compounds
T&D UK distribute an extensive range of Hot Pour Compounds and Trinidite Compounds for 11-33kV high voltage cable jointing and electrical insulation of switchgear, transformers and cable boxes - suitable for a variety of HV cable box filling applications to prevent moisture ingress and provide high voltage electrical insulation.
Typical Hot Pour & Trinidite Compound Applications
HV Switchgear & Transformer Termination Boxes 11kV 33kV
HV Busbar Chambers 11kV 33kV.
Once allowed to cool, the firm setting hot pour Trinidite compound solidifies in the position that it finds itself, care should be taken to avoid the formation of air voids during the pouring process.
Hot pour compounds requiring heat should be heated evenly and the container stirred frequently to prevent local over heating. Suitable vessels and burners should be employed and a thermometer should be used to ensure that the temperature is within the recommended pouring range. Cable accessories (including cable joints and terminations) should be absolutely dry before filling with insulating compound, and pre-warming is desirable wherever possible. When filling an accessory, hot pour compound should be poured slowly to the level quoted in the appropriate cable jointing instruction and then allowed to set before finally filling to the specified level. High voltage cables should not be energised until all hot pour compound has fully set.
Compound may become contaminated with moisture during storage; this is indicated by frothing and crackling during heating. Compound may be dried by heating it to a temperature not exceeding the maximum temperature of the recommended pouring range, but not less than 100 deg C, enabling the foreign moisture to evaporate. During drying, the hot pour compound must be continuously stirred until frothing ceases.
A57/EHT (G101) Hot Pour Compounds
A general purpose G101 type hot pour compound grade - pouring temperature range of 120-130 deg C makes it suitable for use with PVC and MDPE sheathed high voltage cables, 10kg tins.
A57/EHT (G101) grade has been Impulse Voltage Tested resulting in a 179 kV peak at 21 deg C (1/2" diameter spherical electrodes set 0.05" apart).
* Max Voltage : 33kV
* Softening Point : 52-58 deg C
* 120-130 deg C
A58 Hot Pour Compounds
Suitable for outdoor installations which are exposed to alternate heating and cooling conditions, 10kg tins. Unique, self healing compound, it will find its own level after cyclic movement, thus obviating the risk of voids forming in the compound.
A58 grade has been Impulse Voltage Tested with 2" point to plane gap, at 60 deg C made with 1/50th full wave and has an impulse withstand level in excess of 200kV.
* Max Voltage : 33kV
* Softening Point : 40-46 deg C
* 105-125 deg C
MR3/A66 (G83M) Hot Pour Compounds
Superior grade, containing a safety factor to allow for surge and and transient effects, 12.5kg cartons. Its elasticity, flexibility and good cohesion allow it to be used in a wide range of temperatures, especially where brittleness and damage from vibration are to be avoided.
M3/A66 grade has been Impulse Voltage Tested resulting in a Negative Impulse peak of 210kV at 21 deg C (1/2" diameter spherical electrodes set 0.05" apart).
* Max Voltage : 33kV
* Softening Point : 64-70 deg C
* 150-160 deg C
