Triplex Cables - 11kV BS7870-4.10 Single Core Triplex Cables

11kV triplex cables provide high voltage (HV) mains power distribution for utility and industrial applications - 11kv triplex cable consists of three single core high voltage cables in triplex formation according to BS7870 - 4.10.

Triplex Cable 11kV - circular solid aluminium (SAC), cross linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulated, copper wire screen, medium density polyethylene (MDPE) oversheath, three single cores laid up in triplex formation to specification BS7870 and IEC502.

11kV Triplex Cables Specification

1-Conductor - solid circular conductor complying with BS6360 Class 1 or compacted aluminium conductor complying with BS6360 Class 2.

2-Conductor Screen - extruded semi-conducting compound bonded to the insulation and applied in the same way as the cable insulation.

3-Insulation - extruded cross-linked polyethlene (XLPE).

4-Insulation Screen - extruded semi-conducting compound applied in the same operation as the insulation. Cold strippable screens are supplied but fully bonded screens may be provided if specified.

5-Metallic Screen - circular copper wire screens provide an earth fault current path.

6-Binder Tape

7-Oversheath - extruded red medium density polythlene (MDPE) as standard.

300sqmm 11kV Triplex - interconnectors/feeders up to 600amps between primary substations

Prysmian cables have introduced a new method of applying the copper earth screen wires to their 11kV XLPE Triplex cable - this is known as an S-Z cable, so called because the copper wires are wound helically in one direction for 4-6 turns and then in the opposite direction for 4-6 turns - this manufacturing design does not effect the cable jointing method of triplex cables.
