Thomas & Betts Ty Fast Cable Ties - Low Smoke Zero Halogen UL 94 V-0

 

 

Thomas & Betts LSF (low smoke and fume), zero halogen and flame retardant Ty-Fast  cable ties maintain the LSF integrity of electrical cable installations.

LSF cable ties are made from low smoke flame retardant Polyamide 6.6 and meet the requirements of UL94 V-0 for cable bundling in buildings, tunnels and public transport. Cable ties with UL94 V-0 flammability rating shall not have any specimens that burn with flaming combustion for more than 10 seconds - ideal for cable support and bundling BS6724 LSF power cables.

UL94 is a flammability standard that is recommended by Underwriter Laboratories (UL) in USA. The UL94 test has several classifications but the two most commonly used specifications that represent the degree of fire protection are :

UL94 HB – it comprises of slow burning of a horizontally held stripe of the sample specimen. The specimen is fastened with a clamp at one of the ends and is tilted slightly. A flame with a certain energy is applied to the other end for 30 seconds. To pass the test the specimen must burn with a specific rate depending on the thickness of the specimen.

UL94 V – it comprises of burning a vertically held strip of the sample specimen. A clamp at the upper end of the specimen fastens it vertically. A flame with certain energy is applied at the lower end of the specimen for 10 seconds. If the material extinguishes within 10 to 30 seconds after the flame is removed, the flame is applied once again for 10 more seconds. Depending on how the fire extinguishes, the following three grades of classifications are usually used to define the fire properties of the specimen:

1.UL94 V0 – this means that the material stops burning within 10 seconds after the removal of the flame after both flame applications and there are no flaming drips from the burning specimen.
2.UL94 V1 – this is similar to V0 with the only difference that the specimen must extinguish within 30 seconds after both flame applications.
3.UL94 V2 – this is also similar to V1 with the only difference that the flaming drips are allowed to ignite tissue paper lying underneath.
