Heat shrink cable end caps provide a reliable and easy method of sealing low and high voltage cable ends for both indoor and outdoor applications - 3M SKE heat shrink cable end caps are manufactured from semi-rigid, flame retardant, cross-linked polyolefin. Heat shrink cable caps are supplied with an inner adhesive lining for moisture ingress protection - these cable caps can be fitted with air valves suitable for pressurised cable applications.

Application Notes for Heat Shrink Cable Caps

Heat shrink cable caps can be used to cap polymeric (XLPE) cables - cable sheaths should be abraded, then heated gently before application of the heat shrink cable cap. All cables should be immediately capped after cutting off a section - this is especially so in the case of a three core polymeric 11kV cable as it is non-water blocking. TIP - when HV cable drums are returned to stores uncapped then the exposed cable end should be held on the ground and the drum rolled back one revolution and if no water runs out from the cable on the drum then it can be capped in the normal manner.

Cable Sealing End Caps for Lead Sheathed Cables - for low and high voltage cables with lead sheath the heat shrink sealing cable end cap should be shrunk down directly onto the lead sheath - measure the diameter over the lead sheath and select the appropriate size of cable sealing cap. Expose the lead sheath for a distance equal to the length of the heat shrink cable end sealing cap plus 50mm from the cut cable end. Clean  exposed lead sheath with cable jointer wipes, electrical cable degreasing or solvent cleaning solution. Install the heat shrink cable cap to the lead sheathed cable.
