Specifying Nexans Euromold Connectors - MV Medium Voltage Bushing Interfaces A-F Explained

Nexans Euromold are world leaders in the manufacture of Screened Separable Connectors to enable the safe termination of medium voltage power cables onto outer cone bushings of electrical equipment including switchgear, transformers and motors.

All Nexans Euromold connectors are 100%  AC withstand and partial discharge tested at Nexans factory prior to shipment.

The following article enables the correct selection and specification of Nexans Euromold connectors depending on a) cable specification and b) equipment bushing type (A, B, C, D, E or F).

Nexans Euromold Separable Connectors - Features & BenefitsEuromold Connector

  • Compact: Fully screened enabling connectors to be installed in close proximity to surrounding steel work and other connectors. Connectors can be touching if required. 
  • Safety: Safe to touch and weatherproof. Euromold connectors offer excellent mechanical strength. 
  • Flexibility: The connectors can be disconnected and re-used making the movement of equipment possible without having to re-terminate cables. 
  • Ease of installation: Nexans Euromold connectors are suitable for use on all polymeric screened MV cable types up to 42kV.

Nexans Euromold connectors must be fitted onto the correct bushing when installed and can be used to terminate both single and 3 core medium voltage cables.

Nexans Euromold connectors are approved and compatible with ABB, Siemens, Alstom, Brush, Schneider, Ormazabal and Hawker Siddley MV equipment.

The MV-HV electrical equipment to which Nexans Euromold connectors are fitted to must have the correct bushing Interface and be designed to suit the cable specification. Euromold connectors are suitable for connecting single and 3 core polymeric insulated cables with copper wire or tape screens up to 33kV - this has recently been increased to 72kV to cater for offshore wind farm cable terminations onto 66kV equipment.

Euromold 158LR Elbow Connectors are used with 200 Series Interface A Bushing.

Interface A can be identified by the 6 tabs common to 200amp load break systems typical to padmounted transformer applications. Includes a push-on pin contact bail rather than bolt for connecting to unthreaded medium voltage bushings.

Euromold 400LR Elbow Connectors are used with 400 Series Interface B Bushing.

Bolted M16 Nexans Euromold connectors suit 630amp switchgear systems and can be "piggy-backed" using couplers to terminate multiple cables per phase in compact switchgear - common to the UK switchgear market including both air and gas insulated type equipment.
