These cable terms were coined the with the development of the low emission sheathing materials used on cables specified in BS6724 and more recently in other British Standards. In the context of BS cables produced by reputable manufacturers, these terms have much the same meaning, as the requirements for ‘low emission of smoke a corrosive gases when affected by fire’ are rigorous and clearly defined. Where the terms are used more widely it may be necessary to specify the minimum fire performance requirement for each cable in terms of the appropriate Euro Norms EN’s as follows :-
