CMP flameproof cable glands (A2F, E1FW, E2FW, E1FX) with ATEX certification provide an inner and outer proof sheath seal with armour clamp for steel wire, steel tape, screened or braided cables and lead sheathed cables.

CMP flameproof cable glands are Dual Certified for Flameproof EEx d and Increased Safety EEx e methods of explosion protection - CMP Triton cable glands are deluge proof (submersible) and flameproof suitable for terminating SWA, STA and braided cables.

Hazardous area cable glands suit Zone 1, Zone 2, Zone 21 and Zone 22 with Dual Certification (Flameproof Type 'Ex d' and Increased Safety Type 'Ex e').

ATEX Certified Electrical Equipment for Hazardous AreasATEX
ATEX is the name given to a set of European Directives relating to Hazardous Area Electrical Equipment Installations (Flammable Atmospheres) to avoid industrial accident or incident. ATEX Directive 94/9/EC (ATEX 95), is a directive adopted by the EU under the “New Approach” strategy.

The “New Approach” ATEX directive supersedes the “Old Approach” ATEX Directive, the Potentially Explosive Atmospheres Directive, 76/117/EEC – ATEX 94/9/EC (ATEX 95) facilitates free trade in the EC for hazardous area electrical equipment intended to be used in potentially explosive atmospheres. ATEX Directive 94/9/EC (ATEX 95) covers “Electrical Equipment”  used in hazardous areas with potentially explosive atmospheres created by presence of gases, vapours, mists or dusts. 

Hazardous Area Zones According to IECIEC

  • Zone 0 - a hazardous area area where an explosive gas atmosphere is present continuously or is present for long periods of time (e.g. 1000 hours or more per year). Permitted form of protection : Ex "ia".
  • Zone 1 - a hazardous area where an explosive gas atmosphere may exist under normal operating conditions (e.g. 10 - 1000 hours per year). Permitted forms of protection: Any type of protection suitable for Zone 0 and Ex "d", Ex "ib", Ex "p", Ex "e", Ex "s" and Ex "m".
  • Zone 2 - a hazardous area where an explosive gas atmosphere is not likely to exist under normal operating conditions, but if it does it will exist only for a short period of time (e.g. less than 10 hours per year). Often referred to as the "Remotely Hazardous Area". Permitted forms of protection - any type of protection suitable for Zone 0 and 1 and Ex "N" or Ex "n", Ex "o", Ex "q. 

Hazardous Area Cable Glands

 

Flameproof Ex "d" Cable Glands - electrical equipment may include arcing and sparking (incendive) devices and flammable mixtures which may enter the enclosure or junction box. The cable gland design is specified to contain an internal explosion and prevent transmission of sufficient energy to ignite a potentially flammable atmosphere outside the enclosure or junction box.
