Prysmian BICAST LV cable joints are hydrocarbon resistant for both above and underground cable jointing of power cables in contaminated areas of the oil, gas and petrochemical industries, including Zones 1 and Zones 2.

Prysmian hydro carbon resistant cable joints are suitable for single, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 12, 19, 27 and 37 core power, control and instrumentation cables.

Prysmian BICAST hydro carbon resistant cable joints are specified for jointing 600/1000 volt polymericZone 1 Zone 2 Cable Joints insulated (XLPE), lead covered (LC), steel wire armoured (SWA) cables to EEMUA 133 with copper conductors.


EEMUA133 Cable Specification 

EEMUA133 power cable manufactured to BS5467 : plain annealed stranded copper conductors, XLPE insulation, PVC bedding, lead sheathed, PVC bedding, galvanised SWA steel wire armour, PVC outer sheath. EEMUA133 power cables are used for electricity supply in low voltage installation systems and are suitable for underground use in industrial applications, including hydrocarbon installations.

EEMUA133 Cable Joints

Prysmian BICAST cable joints feature phenolic joint shells to provide excellent resistance to hydrocarbons found in oil, gas and petrochemical installations. Tests to demonstrate the chemical resistance of both the cable joint shell and sealing putty have been carried out to BS6899 using ASTM oils, numbers 2 and 3 - this calls for 24 hour immersion at 100 degrees celsius and specifies permissible changes in mechanical properties before and after ageing.

In each case minimal changes were observed to the cable joint after immersion in both oils, under conditions where most conventional polymers used in cable construction would not survive.
