Control Cable Joints for Hazardous Areas (Zone 1 & 2)

3M CR Control Cable Joints : Hazardous Area

Low Voltage Resin Cable Jointing & Splice Kits for Control Cables

3M Scotchcast CR hazardous area control cable joints are suitable for multi-core XLPE, EPR and PILC cables with steel wire armour (SWA) or galvanised steel wire braid (GSWB), 0.6/1kV and up to 3.3kV - 3M CR control cable joints are hydrocarbon resistant and flame retarded for Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous area installation.

3M CR Scotchcast cable joints are also suitable for lead sheathed (XLPE & PILC) control cables.

3M Scotchcast No. 1400U resin cable joints are flame retardant with excellent long term resistance against hydrocarbons - Scotchcast resin cable joints are suitable for areas where there is a danger of gas, oil, sewage or chemical spillage including Zones 1 & Zone 2 Hazardous Areas.

3M Scotchcast resin cable joint kit CR range, has now been replaced by 3M Scotchcast LVI3-IC for flame retardant, hydro-carbon resistant, halogen-free resin cable jointing of multi-core or multi-paIr control and instrumentation cables in hazardous areas - 3M LVI cable joints are specified for Zone 1 and Zone cable jointing and also for underground direct burial applications in areas of high soil contamination.

3M Cable Joints for Hazardous Areas in relation to ATEX 94/9/EC Directive - The ATEX Directive covers a large range of electrical equipment, potentiallly including equipment used on fixed offshore platforms, in petrochemical plants, mines, flourmills and other areas where a potentially explosive atmosphere may be present. In very broad terms, there are three pre-conditions for the ATEX Directive to apply to electrical equipment certification : the equipment a) must have its own source of ignition b) be intended for use in a potentially explosive atmosphere (air mixtures) c) be under normal atmospheric conditions. When used as directed, 3M cable joints and cable terminations do not have a source of ignition. The firing of an explosive atmosphere may be caused by a short circuit, but when installed according to 3M instruction, these 3M cable joints and terminations are safe against short circuits. To conclude, 3M cable accessories (cable joints, terminations, abandonment kits) are not within the scope of the ATEX directive.
